How to win a GRAMMY (2027)
Here’s a summary of the GRAMMY awards process, the only peer-reviewed award in music, with over 20,000 submissions each year.
GRAMMY awards eligibility
To be eligible for a 2027 GRAMMY award, a submitted recording must have been released between August 31, 2025 and August 28, 2026.
The window to submit entries for GRAMMY awards consideration is short: July 7, 2026 – August 21, 2026.
Only Voting and Professional members of the Recording Academy (as well as registered Media Companies) can submit entries for awards consideration. So, if you’re not a member of the Recording Academy, now’s the time to talk to your label, representation, or musician friends to see if you know someone who can submit your music for awards consideration on your behalf.
Additional GRAMMY awards eligibility requirements:
Length. For an album submission, a recording must contain:
at least five different tracks with a total playing time of 15 minutes OR
a total playing time of 30 minutes, with no minimum track amount.
Singles have no such requirements.
Format. A submitted recording must:
Be available for sale either in physical brick and mortar stores or online via digital download, or via a recognized streaming platform.
Meet the industry minimum standard of 16-bit, 44.1 kHz rates.
Each submitted song must have proper metadata credits (songwriters, producers, etc.) and International Standard Recording Codes (ISRCs) for each track.
Original material. An album must contain:
Greater than 66 percent of newly recorded material (made within five years of the release date) that has not been released prior.

First round voting
Once the entry window for musical submissions closes:
Genre committees screen every submission to be sure it’s been linked to the correct award.
Voting/Professional Academy Members vote on all submissions to determine this years GRAMMY award nominees.
The 2027 GRAMMY nominees will be announced on Nov. 16, 2026.
The 2027 GRAMMY awards
Once the nominees are announced, final round votes from the nominee pool are counted, and the winners in each category are announced on the evening of the GRAMMY awards ceremony. The most popular awards (Album of the Year, etc), are televised during the awards ceremony broadcast, but there's tons of GRAMMY award winners in less popular or more technical categories that don’t make the TV show.
The 2027 GRAMMY awards ceremony will take place on Feb 7, 2027.
After the awards
Once the years GRAMMY award winners are announced, the cycle starts over again:
The open submission window for awards consideration takes place during the summer, usually closing in late summer of a given year.
GRAMMY Nominees are voted on and announced in the late fall (November ish).
GRAMMY Winners are voted on, announced, and televised at the awards ceremony broadcast in the early spring (January/February ish).
